Albendazole is an anthelmintic or a drug against worms. Hatched insect larvae (worms) may grow or multiply in your body.
Albendazole is used to treat certain infections caused by worms, such as pork tapeworm and dog tapeworm.
Albendazole is used to treat neurocysticercosis (infection caused by the pork tapeworm in the muscles, brain, and eyes that can cause seizures, brain swelling, and vision problems).
Albendazole is also used in combination with surgery to treat an infection caused by the canine tapeworm in the liver, lungs and the lining of the abdomen that can damage these organs.
Albendazole is used to treat infections caused by worms. It works by preventing the worm from absorbing sugar (glucose) so that the worm loses energy and dies.
Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, or temporary hair loss may occur. If any of these side effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist immediately.
Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medicine for you because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people taking this medicine have no serious side effects.
Tell your doctor right away if you get serious side effects such as: severe headache that does not go away, vision changes, yellowing eyes/skin, severe stomach and/or abdominal pain, dark urine, unusual tiredness, easy bruising/bleeding, signs infection (such as sore throat that does not go away, fever, chills), signs of kidney problems (such as change in the amount of urine), confusion and/or a very stiff neck.
